Void Profit Devlog #1: Big performance work
Did a performance fix on the game. Multiple fixes actually.
Things are less stuttery now. The map feels better to open and move around in, the cockpit is less heavy during travel and combat, and the whole thing doesn’t spike as much as before.
Also holds up better over longer sessions. There weren’t any major slowdowns before but the Task Manager (or rather the system monitor on my less powerful Linux laptop) weren’t looking as good as I wanted them to.
Graphics settings should matter a bit more now too, especially on lower-end machines. Should you need to go to Low settings? Probably not, still good to have that.
Still some stuff to keep an eye on, but this was an important improvement overall.
- Map is smoother and more responsive
- Cockpit updates feel lighter during travel and combat
- Fewer spikes and stutters overall
- Lowered system load significantly
- Graphics settings now reduce actual load more noticeably (they actually do what you’d think the should)
- Some heavier visual effects toned down
- Switched more effects to textures instead of heavier computed stuff
- Reduced unnecessary background work throughout the whole game (there were too many things updating when they shouldn’t have).
